Mr. Earl C. Engel was instrumental in the formation of the Hampshire Area Chamber of Commerce and both Hampshire and Burlington Lion's Clubs. He helped in the formation of Old Fashioned Days, which was the prelude to the current Hampshire Coon Creek Country Days. He served two terms on the Hampshire Village Board and during that time he had responsibilities for the initial development of the Hampshire Police Department. Mr. Engel owned and operated Engel Ford Sales on State Street from 1957 until 1975 when he and his wife Hazel retired to Arizona. Even though they retired to Arizona, their roots remained here in Hampshire where they kept in touch with their Hampshire friends and in the Village of Hampshire itself.
